Wood Policy and Innovation Conference, Session A – Governance and Policy Initiatives: Best Practices in Public Support Tools and Initiatives
On 7 November 2024, the Wood Policy and Innovation Conference will take place at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union in Brussels, focusing on how Europe’s wood sector can drive sustainable construction and climate action. This event will gather policymakers, Members of the European Parliament and their staff, European Commission staff and experts, and interest groups to explore the wood industry’s role in achieving the EU’s climate-neutral goals.
Session A: Governance and Policy – Best Practices in Public Support
At 14:00 CET, Session A will delve into how public policies can support the growth of wood-based construction. Hosted by the European Wood Policy platform (WoodPoP) and Bioregions Facility, the session will showcase national initiatives such as the Czech Wood Policy Programme, Austrian Wood Initiative, and Swiss Wood Resource Policy. These programs highlight how governments can promote sustainable wood use and support local development in urban and rural areas. Regional best practices from Galicia and North Rhine-Westphalia will also be presented, focusing on public procurement for sustainable buildings and social housing projects.
The European Wood Policy platform will also present its recently endorsed policy paper entitled ‘A Wood-Based Circular Bioeconomy for a Sustainable Europe’, which identifies critical fields of action and the necessary structural short to long-term framework conditions, as well as suitable instruments and resources, for strengthening the wood-based circular bioeconomy in Europe.
